‘From the Ashes’ Ian Adams

‘You have spent a lifetime
quietly mourning or ignoring
your losses and your lostness
with no funeral, no wake and no way
to nurture your joy.

Time for a burial.
No, for a burning!
For a great funeral pyre
that will light the night sky.
Then a festal meal of bread and wine.
And, from the ashes, perhaps some kind of rising.’

Ian Adams (from ‘Unfurling’)

A supervisee gave ‘Unfurling’ to the writer, as a parting gift at the completion of a long journey together. This is one of her favourites.
