Carmen Yamamoto on Aliveness

“There’s no inherent value in any spiritual attainment. You’re only as alive as you are vulnerable, and no insight, awakening or realization will do that for you. Being truly open and receptive to life’s majestic chaos comes only as a result of consciously lowering your defenses, one by one. When this is done, it doesn’t look like an impressive accomplishment; there’s no elevation in it, no nobility. It’s a matter of dropping down into the shit storm with your nerves raw and your tear glands cranked on and being buffeted about without ever placing yourself outside of or above the fray. That’s where aliveness happens.”
