Hafiz on how we open our hearts

‘How
did the rose
ever open its heart
and give to this world all of its beauty?
It felt the encouragement of light against its being,
otherwise we all remain too
frightened’

Hafiz

Version by Daniel Ladinsky: Love Poems from God

The beautiful film is from David de los Santos, via Rumble Science on You Tube, with music by Roger Subirana – this is called ‘Point of no return’.

Reminds us too of Carl Rogers on people and sunsets (featured before on this blog):-

“People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying, “Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.” I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.”

Carl Rogers

Therapy is about offering what a person needs in order to feel safe enough to unfold – ‘the encouragement of light against…[their] being’. This becomes possible through a relationship characterized by presence and the core conditions. Very simple, very rare. Not techniques, not skills, not any kind of ‘doing to’ – simply one human being who has unfolded sufficiently themselves to be in a place to support the same process in another, by how they are able to be in relationship.
