Paulo Coelho on Explaining your emotions

“Don’t bother trying to explain your emotions. Live everything as intensely as you can and keep whatever you felt as a gift from God. The best way to destroy the bridge between the visible and invisible is by trying to explain your emotions.”

Paulo Coelho, Brida

This might seem like an odd post for a talking therapy service. From a person-centred perspective, we don’t see therapy as being about explaining emotion – although people may feel a need to do that, some of the time (there’s something very important about being witnessed….). We see therapy primarily in terms of actually experiencing ourselves with immediacy – our emotions and all other aspects – within the safety and acceptance of a relationship characterized by the core conditions.
