Pema Chödrön on compassion between equals

Click on the title for this Facebook picture (Art by Brian Jekel) and a wonderful quotation from Pema Chödrön, from her book, “The Places That Scare You: A Guide to Fearlessness in Difficult Times.”

From a person-centred perspective, we would agree with this. The core conditions can be offered only from a place of self-awareness, self-ownership, equality and shared humanity – not hierarchically. The recognition is that we are each wounded and each a healer. As therapists, we meet clients not from a ‘me fine, you wounded’ place, but rather from a place of ‘we are all in this together, and for this hour my attention, my presence and my knowledge/abilities are offered in your service’.
