Traditional Lakota Prayer

Traditional Lakota Prayer

Great Spirit, Great Mystery,
teach me how to trust my heart,
my mind,
my intuition,
my inner knowing,
the senses of my body,
the blessings of my spirit.
Teach me to trust these things
so that I may enter my sacred space
and love beyond my fear,
and thus walk in balance with the passing of each glorious sun.

This is on our notice board here. We think it’s more useful than the kind of stuff that often makes it onto workplace notice boards.

This service originally began (back in the 1990s) under church auspices, but has long since been independent. Our therapists vary in terms of religious affiliation – some have it, some don’t. Our clients likewise. We suspect most of us on the therapy side who don’t, might nonetheless tick the ‘spiritual, but not religious’ box on certain forms. Whether that’s about connection with nature, or a sense that there is more to us and more to living than the material/functional.

So we think wherever you stand on “Great Spirit, Great Mystery”, there is something in these words for many of us.
